Review of Changi Recommends – Attractions and Tours
Hello! It has been some time since I last posted. Hopefully, I will be able to find time to finish off several posts that I started but didn’t manage to see through. Okay. What am I writing about today? Hmm… Changi Recommends!
Yes, yes, I know I covered them previously in my other post on their wireless wifi routers. If you have not read that post, it can be found here. Just in case you are wondering, I still recommend using their wifi routers if you don’t travel frequently. The wifi router will likely offer the cheapest and most convenient data solution whilst overseas (save for buying a local sim card and using local data that way – which may be inconvenient if you are rushing around or near impossible for example in China without a local passport or ID) . Okay enough about their wifi routers, today’s post isn’t about it. What I want to talk about today is their other less known products. Did you know that Changi Recommends actually sell discounted tickets for tourist attractions? IMHO, these products are in fact the hidden jewels of Changi Recommends (Haha, did you get the JEWEL pun. Okay. Lame).
I happened to stumble across Changi Recommends’ offerings just before my trip to Sydney last year.
I was trying then to find tickets to the Blue Mountains and was going through the various third-party agencies online. One thing that really put me off from actually going with some of these deals is the lack of trust. I did not know whether they were reliable or can be counted on to deliver what I purchased. I did not want to be disappointed during my trip.
Then I thought about Changi Recommends. Changi Recommends being managed by a subsidiary of Changi Airport Group was to me an entity that can be trusted and a company that I purchased services from before.
Okay. Trustworthiness aside, what are Changi Recommends’ offerings? It would be quite lame to use their website if they had nothing to offer right? Boy, I was definitely wrong. I found their offerings plenty and are actually attractions that I would visit:
So, did I purchase anything from Changi Recommends?
Yes and No.
I did not purchase their Blue Mountain Package (even though that was what that started my hunt for an agency in the first place). Not because it didn’t represent good value. I think it did. The reason why we chose not to is because it was more of a package deal covering other destinations as well (eg. Featherdale Wildlife Park). Our preference then was to spend more time in the Blue Mountains rather than rushing off to cover another location. And… since I was planning to propose to her during that trip, it didn’t make sense to bind or confine myself to an organised tour package. Would have been super embarrassing proposing in front of so many others.
Instead, we grabbed tickets for the Sydney Tower Eye. Really fantastic a deal at 33% off retail price. And it felt awesome knowing that those queuing in front and behind you are paying the full fare. *Evil laughter*
Pro Tip: Do book a few days in advance as it will take some time for Changi Recommends to send you the confirmation / attraction tickets. While Changi Recommends is a Singapore company, from my experience using the platform, it does not appear to restrict itself to just Singaporeans. So for my foreign readers, do check Changi Recommends out and see if the discounts are what you people are looking for.
Signing off.
P.S. She said yes.
