Review: Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge

I came back recently from my holiday in India and I managed to fly Malaysia Airlines’ business class from Singapore to New Delhi via Kuala Lumpur. This is the second part the series where I review and document my experience visiting Malaysia Airlines’ Golden Lounge whilst flying business with Malaysia Airlines. If you have not checked out my first article of this series, it can be found here.

Golden Lounge @ KUL

For those who are unaware, there is actually more than 1 “Golden Lounge” in KUL. One of the lounges is for “Regional” travel while the international one is located in what I think to be the main terminal (at least, the terminal I normally fly from). Having done my due diligence (i.e. asking the receptionist at the Regional lounge), it appears that their Satellite lounge is better! So if you are flying Malaysian Airlines, please DYOR and pick the correct lounge!

The lounge is spacious and can be divided into 3 main areas: Bar, Dining/Lounge Area and a Rest area.

I found the food there just average as I happened to visit during tea time. Apparently, there are meal hours for the lounge. During the lull periods, the mains are swapped out with snacks. So, in my case, it was tea time. While I managed to get a glimpse of the lunch service before the swap, I didn’t get a chance to grab a bite. The lunch food, however, looked pretty decent.

Food spread during tea time at Golden Lounge. Snacks were a tad bit disappointing 🙁

On-site baristas that will help create that perfect brew.

There is no alcohol served in the Dining/Lounge Area. Those can be found at the bar area. There are bartenders (yay!) but I would have preferred tapped beers to the canned beers served in the lounge. I think this is one major sore point for me especially when its neighbour in Singapore offers beer taps in its lounges. It also loses out to other international airlines in this regard. If you have not checked it out yet, JAL offers automatic beer dispensers in its Haneda Lounge!

For the tired traveler, the Golden Lounge also offers nap rooms. Pretty cozy!

For those in need of a desperate shower, the lounge also offers shower facilities. You just need to exchange your boarding pass for a towel just outside the washrooms. Was a god send for my return trip back from Delhi. Shower gels and shampoo provided.

I hope you found this review/guide of Golden Lounge useful. For all those aspiring business travelers, this is something you may want to look forward to. For all those seasoned travelers, this might be something to help decide whether to fly Malaysia Airlines’ Business class. In any case, please remember to like and follow for more!
